Meet the Public Adjuster

Meet the Public Adjuster: James Brown

Welcome to our continuing ‘Meet the Public Adjuster’ series, featuring members of the Professional Loss Adjusters team. We hope you enjoy getting to know our Adjusters. We feel lucky to have team members who are so knowledgeable about our industry and care deeply about the well-being of our clients.

How did you get into the business?

I owned a remediation company for 10 years. During that time I was able to assist people suffering catastrophic damage to their property, such as fire, water, and mold. Helping families get back to their homes or business owners get back to work was such a rewarding experience that when I sold my company the natural transition was to become a Public Adjuster.

As a Public Adjuster, I continue to help people suffering a loss to their home or business, focusing on how to maximize their insurance claim so they get everything they need to be made whole.

How do you like working as a Public Adjuster?

I find being a Public Adjuster challenging and rewarding at the same time. To be able to advocate for people suffering a loss to their home or business is a privilege, and to get them everything they rightfully deserve is gratifying. When people are overwhelmed with the complexities of their loss, the last thing they need to deal with is the world of insurance. This is where I step in and advocate for them, so they can focus 100% on their family or re-building their business.

As a Public Adjuster, I continue to help people suffering a loss to their home or business, focusing on how to maximize their insurance claim so they get everything they need to be made whole.

What unique skills do you bring to the table when you are adjusting a claim?

I am certified in Water Damage Restoration, Applied Structural Drying and Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration through the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification). I’ve held my Construction/Building Supervisor license for over 25 years.  These have been a vital part of my success in the remediation and re-building business. As a Public Adjuster, having a strong background in various types of restoration and in building and construction allows me to accurately estimate claims for our clients. I know what contractors need to do to make the insured whole. Understanding building code is crucial as it changes year to year.

What is something everyone facing an insurance loss should know?

80% of claims really require a Public Adjuster. Company adjusters or Independent Adjusters represent the insurance company and are constrained by the carrier’s guidelines and processes.  These guidelines often fall short of what is really needed to fully help the client. A Public Adjuster bridges the gap between what the company adjuster is able to do and what is necessary to restore the client’s property to pre-loss conditions. That’s why it’s so important to call a Public Adjuster as soon as a loss occurs, so you can be sure to get everything you’re entitled to, based on your policy.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about helping others in any way I can, whether that is through my work as a Public Adjuster or participating in charity events to raise money for worthy causes. I am an avid cyclist, averaging 5500 miles a year. My passion for cycling has allowed me to participate in several charity cycling events, such as Cystic Fibrosis and Project Hero to name few.
